I know that Facebook is really not an avenue meant to “spill your guts” but it has been a wonderful tool for us to connect with Godly people and express our needs for Kristi and the family and be covered with the prayers of God’s faithful servants.
Today is just such an occasion. Over four months ago, as Kristi was freshly off of a feeding tube and a trach she began walking and doing so very well at it too. She was blessed with the most professional AND caring PT, Kalli, the greatest OT, Beth, and an unbelievable ST, Lindsey there at Zale Lipshy they were truly all the best in their fields. We knew that God had brought Kristi to Zale to begin her rehab and recovery process and it was overwhelmingly evident to everyone involved.
Now we are at a standstill and backing up even. Kristi has acquired a tremendous fear of walking. Many days she absolutely cannot make herself take a step no matter how hard she tries nor how much we help or encourage her. We don’t know if this is normal for a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or not. We don’t know and haven’t received any answers. We do know that her current PT is frustrated and has become very negative about the situation. I know that I am Kristi’s advocate but I have talked with so many and just don’t know what to do next.
Kristi’s brother, Matt is trying so hard now to help get her over the fears as are Sandy, Austin, Tyler, Cody, and I. Kristi knows that she should be able to walk even though she forgets if she has walked or not recently. We all try to remain strong and rely on God’s timing (and He will pull Kristi through) but the process is devastatingly difficult. We are all worn out and emotionally torn up, especially Kristi.
My plea is to anyone who has expertise or experience in this type of injury or the rehabilitation process. Please give us some wisdom for what we should do. If you k now someone who has been here and would be willing to help please get us in touch with each other. You can message me or call me anytime. If you don’t have experience or know anyone then please PRAY for a solution. Kristi needs your help…PLEASE. - Jay"
