Roy Alan Jones, 87, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, came to rest in the arms of his Heavenly Father on Friday morning, February 15, 2019, at Heritage House in Paris, Texas.
Roy Alan was born January 13, 1932, in Crawford, Texas, to Roy Brown Jones and Flaven Walker Jones, and after graduating from Crawford High School in 1949, he played football at Hill Junior College before entering the United States Air Force and serving his country as an air traffic controller during the Korean War. Following his honorary discharge he earned a degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. Roy Alan worked for a variety of government contract companies including Boeing, Rockwell International, and Hercules over the next 40 years. He played an integral role in developing an ignition component of the Apollo missions that went to the moon.
On June 6, 1958, Roy Alan married his childhood friend, Nancy Lou Compton. Roy and Nancy had five children, three foster children, twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
He provided invaluable homework assistance to his children and never missed one of their activities. He especially loved sporting events which he always followed with earned praise and kind, constructive criticism. He enjoyed taking his family camping, boating, hiking fishing and a variety of other outdoor activities.
Roy Alan lived most of his life in Crawford, Texas, and in his later years helped to care for his grandchildren there before moving to Paris, Texas, in 2008.
He was a member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ and continued to support his grandchildren in their various sporting endeavors. He loved to read the newspaper, work crossword puzzles, and do whatever he could to make his family happy.
Roy Alan is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy; children Frank Dobbs and wife Cookie of The Woodlands, Rob Roy Jones and wife Teresa of Florence, Misti Turbeville and husband Kenneth of Valley Mills, Dr. Kyle Jones and wife Monica of Paris, Jodi Kohlscheen and husband Bob of Crawford, and Joshua Jones of Monterey, California; grandchildren Alicia Turbeville Murphy and husband Dr. Lee Murphy, Alan Turbeville, Nash Turbeville, Mackenna Jones King and husband Dr. Caleb King, Spencer Jones and wife Ariana , Jacob Jones, Chandler Jones, Joani Kohlscheen, Seth Kohlscheen, Rachel Dobbs Bowling, Beau Dobbs, and Nancy Dobbs Sweeny; and great grandchildren Caitlyn Dobbs, Carter Dobbs, Cozette Loraine Murphy, Byrdie Pearl Murphy, and Lydia Nicole King.
