Weekly Update - 3/24

Randy's message this morning was "Why Bother the Teacher Anymore", with the text taken from Mark 5:21-43.
He prefaced the message with a quote by Jerry Seinfeld...“According to most studies, people's number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you're better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

I.    Jesus Encounters Jarius (5:21-24a)
II.  The News of the Death of the Daughter (5:35-40)
III. The Daughter is Raised From the Dead (5:41-43)

Randy then had Keith get up and talk about our Grief Class, that meets each Wednesday night. He discussed how this group has helped so many people, since its' inception.  We have good grief and tears.

1.  Jesus again is willing to serve.
2. We are not responsible to raise the dead but support the grieving.
3. Two things that help:
     a. Remember the advice of author Doug Manning: hang-out, hug and hush!
     b. Read Katie Bowler's book "Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I've Loved".

❤❤❤

OUR SYMPATHY is extended to Bill and Nancy Partin in the passing of his brother, Nolan Partin.  This was Bill's only living brother. Please remember this family in your prayers.

Updates - 3/21

  • Greg Mayes will have an abdominal scan today.  He has developed a blood clot in his left leg and is taking blood thinners at this time.
  • Derald Bulls is recovering at home from his surgery.
  • Daisy Redding continues to recuperate at home.

Update on Jay Anthony - 3/21

Austin posted this update:  We are for sure going home tomorrow. These past five weeks have been challenging and we still have a long road ahead, but things will be much better once we are home...I know there are a ton of people who are going through similar situations and I wanted to share a couple of things. I’m not the best with this type of thing but I hope it helps someone in some way.
•Life is a bi%*#, that’s just reality. We can either let it keep us down or toughen up and deal with it.
•Family and friends are everything. Without my family and some of my close friends, I could not have made it through the tough times over the last 6 1/2 years.
• Say what you want about Paris, TX but I would never want to live anywhere else. The people in our community are amazing and I appreciate you guys so much for all you have done for my family.
•Some injuries are permanent (my mom’s) and some are temporary (my dad’s). Either way, if you know someone who is a caretaker, be sure to help them. I never truly was able to appreciate what my dad has done for my mom until something happened to him. Being a caretaker is tough and lonely at times. Erin and I have had that burden on us for the past 5 weeks and I can’t imagine doing it long term like many have to. Luckily I have two role models in my dad and our friend Spencer Wilson. They both have been caretakers for years and will continue to be. Sometimes all a caretaker needs is a great friend or someone to stop by and say hi. If you know someone in that situation, be sure to be a good friend to them.
•See you tomorrow PTX👌🏼

Monday, March 18, 2019

Update on Jay Anthony 3/18

Austin posted this update: Dad’s speech has made HUGE progress this past week. We are able to have full conversations with him. He is still having a lot of trouble getting some words out but we are really happy with where he is. His walking is coming along slowly but surely and there is still no movement on the right arm. The doctor said there is still some swelling on the brain so that may be holding him back in some areas. Things are looking good overall and we are ready to get home on Friday.

Update on Billy Icenhower 3/18

Sheila just heard from Billy. Surgery is tentatively set for April 9th. If so he will go in on the 8th and get a screen in his groin in case there is a blood clot in his leg. It will be the whipple surgery.  If the pancreas can’t be saved he will remove it and he will be diabetic. In the hospital for a week. Then in two weeks will get new chemo schedule set up.

Our Sympathy...

Bill Partin's brother, Nolan Partin, passed away.
Please remember this family in your prayers.

Update on Richie Services....

From Brian Richie: "For anyone that wants to come, we are having a come-and-go celebration of life visitation service at Christian Fellowship/Paris on 271N, from 6-8pm on Friday. It will be light hearted and casual. Kids are encouraged to come with you and join us in honoring our baby girl"

Update on Derald Bulls - 3/15

Lesa sent this message:  Derald is at Medical City/Plano with acute pancreatitis.  He transferred over here Thursday morning by ambulance.  They tried to do a MRI, but he couldn't handle the slab table and holding his breath didn't work either! (They were able to get a few images.) The doctor came by to explain the procedure.  (It's similar to endoscopy.)  He will have the surgery today, around 2pm. Bile duct is stopped up where it goes to small intestine/pancreas.

Keep Derald & Lesa Bulls and the family in your prayers. Derald was taken to the hospital in Plano with pancreatitis yesterday.

He will continue outpatient therapy for the coming months at PRMC (pending insurance approval). We still have a very long way to go before things are back to normal but this is a big step!

II.   The Exorcist (5:6-13)
III.  The Explanation (5:14-17)

Urgent Prayer Request - 3/7

Joanne Wood sent this prayer request:  Jessica Preston has been diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer.  She is a beautiful Christian wife, Mommy and daughter of my precious friend.

Update on Jay Anthony - 3/7

Austin posted this update this morning:  As I said earlier in the week, dad is ready to get home. He wants to be in Paris and told me yesterday to load him up and take him home. This would be great because the complete lack of sleep and constant driving back and forth from Paris to Plano to handle things has definitely caught up to Erin and I (and mom’s amazing caretaker Catherine who has yet to take a day off). The doctor said we could take him to rehab in Paris, BUT we feel in dad’s best interest, he should remain at Medical City Plano. The therapists/nurses have been amazing and he is progressing quicker than we had originally thought. Today, the rehab doctor told us that we may be in Plano for two more weeks but after that, we should be able to take dad home and do in-home therapy.

Update on Jay Anthony 3/6

Austin posted this update last night: Dad has made significant progress these past few days. He is able to have very small conversations. The speech therapist is very confident that dad’s memory is completely in tact, which is the best news we have heard yet. However, he is having trouble getting out what he’s trying to say. For example, he called me “Tyler” three times tonight even though he was thinking “Austin”. This is making him very upset but the doctor says this is normal with a stroke. They are all very optimistic that dad will eventually have close to, if not a full recovery. Hopefully we can get back to Paris soon!

Weekly Update - 3/3

Randy's message this morning "NOW IS THE TIME", with the text from Mark 1:14-15, was a great segue to the panel of our Haiti Medical Mission Team who gave an update on their trip in January.
Chancey Stevens, Clay Friddle, Kristen Mayes and Greg Mayes each told about what they saw and what they did during the trip.  The main message? You do not have to have a specific field of training to go to Haiti.  Everyone can help do SOMETHING!
