Cleaning the church 8/28

From cooking hot dogs to painting the stairs.
From serving the hot dogs to cleaning toilets.
From loading and unloading mulch to washing toys.
From polishing the pews to washing the windows.
There were LOTS of folks, young and old, who came to the building to CLEAN, POLISH, DUST, VACUUM, ETC ETC ... it looked like a colony of ants!!!
Thanks to everyone who helped in ANY aspect tonight!!!
I'm gonna need an extra dose of Aleve tonight!!

Prayer Request 8/28

Derald Bulls aren't this request:  Please add Traci Mahar to our prayer list. She is the wife of one of my PJC coworkers. She received a disturbing diagnosis today and her husband, Eddie, asked that we pray for them and the days ahead.

Update on Dr. Zimmerman 8/28

Dr. Zimmerman started his first round of chemotherapy today.
Please continue to pray for him.

Joseph Filkins, my co-worker Delona Swaim's fiancee, became ill over the weekend and was taken to the ER.  Nothing was found. He then went to the Mt. Pleasant ER and they transported him to UT/Tyler.
He had surgery yesterday where they found a blood clot in his leg.  They sent the clot to the pathologist and were told this morning that he has an abscess in his spine.  He is in ICU and is taking IV antibiotics.  He will have to continue those for approximately 8 weeks.  They aren't giving him a date that he will be released from the hospital yet.
Delona was in an accident, on Saturday night, with a huge wild hog and she was JUST diagnosed with diabetes last week.
Please keep this couple in your prayers as they are in this valley.

Spruce up the building - 8/28

TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT!!!
There is something for EVERYONE to do!! Please come help us spruce up our building in preparation for our 150th Celebration. Your help is needed and appreciated!!!
Come for a hotdog simple supper @ 5:30PM and then take ownership in whatever area you want to work in.

Update on Dorothy White 8/27

Derald Bulls sent this update:  I heard from Bob White today and his wife, Dorothy, was discharged from the hospital earlier today and she and her two daughter have rented a van and are driving home. The neurologist asked that they not fly so they are on the road back to the Houston area.

Please pray specifically for safe travels for them!

Prayer Request - 8/27

Karen Cato asked for prayers for her friend Sandy Taylor Martin:  When I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago they found some stuff that wasn’t normal with my heart and we are having a hard time keeping my blood pressure down. Thursday morning I’m going in for a heart cath and possibly stents. I have a phenomenal cardiologist in Galveston. He has permission to fix whatever he needs too when he’s in. If you call me or text me don’t be upset if I don’t answer. I have so much love for my Facebook family and all I ask is that you say a prayer for everything to go smoothly. Thank you all in advance. It’s been a rough year.

Presenting....

The Valley of the Caddo Museum proudly presents Pottery by Connelle Peace. Connelle was mostly self-taught until she and her husband, Richard, returned to Paris in 2000 to take care of their widowed mothers. Her first class was at Paris Junior College and she later completed seven ceramic classes at Texas A&M, Commerce. She commented, “I truly enjoy playing in the mud and experimenting with different clay bodies and glazes, especially layering glazes to see what wonderful surprises await.”

Prayer Request 8/26

Derald Bulls sent this message: Please add Dorothy and Bob White to our prayer list. Both are former educators in PISD but have been in Friendswood for many years (and both retired).

Last Tuesday Dorothy and her daughter Kelly were flying to New York City. On the way, Dorothy developed sever pain in her left arm. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in NYC and admitted where they diagnosed her with a blood clot in her left arm. She had surgery and remains in the hospital as she had some other issues-irregular heartbeat, low potassium and magnesium on Friday but had an MRI today and is awaiting results in hopes to fly home to Houston this week. Bob called and asked specifically to pray for her strength for the flight and return home. This sweet couple have been prayer warriors for our family, specifically Laramy and Dustin with the issues they have had to deal with in the last few months.

This is a sweet couple and I’d appreciate anyone who would take time to drop them a note of encouragement as they are such an encouragement to me.

Roots & Wings

Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, 3535 Lamar Avenue, culminates its 150th-anniversary celebration, “Roots & Wings” on the weekend of Sept. 7-8. The festivities culminate on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a worship service in the church auditorium at 9 a.m. followed by Sunday School Classes taught by former members and ministers of Lamar Avenue.
Dr. Randy Johns, preaching minister at Lamar Avenue, will bring Sunday morning’s message during Worship Service, “You Will Be My Witness” (Acts 1:1-11).
Johns served Lamar Avenue from 1985-92 as the Church’s youth minister and returned to Paris in 2018.
“We certainly welcome our community to join in this milestone of this great historical Church,” said Dr. Kyle Jones, Church Elder.
The day of celebration is open to the community.
Following the Worship Service and Sunday School Classes, members and guests will assemble for a catered luncheon at Love Civic Center begin between 12-12:30 p.m. Following the luncheon, several former ministers will reminisce on their time at the Church interspersed with a proclamation, music by Won Heart, Rock Solid, Kids for Christ and an award-winning Leadership Training for Christ quintet.
The congregation began the celebration in April with an evening service in the Biardstown community at the site of the old Antioch Church of Christ, the location of the first Church of Christ in Lamar County and one of the oldest churches in the early days of Texas statehood. James M. Biard was the first minister for the Paris congregation known as Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
The purpose of going back to Antioch in Biardstown is to remember this first congregation in Lamar County and contributions it made and the influence it has had in Paris, Northeast Texas and beyond.
Scheduled to teach Sunday School Classes include Dr. Jeff Christian, who served 1999-2002 and is now the preaching minister at the Bearing Drive Church of Christ, Houston, TX; Keith Kilmer, whose late father, Dean Kilmer, served Lamar Avenue from 1988-1998 and Keith is the pulpit minister at the Robinson Avenue Church of Christ, Springdale, AR. The father and son team of Dr. John Cannon (1977-88) now retired and living in Paris, and his son, Patrick Cannon (2003-17), now the preaching minister at Walnut Church of Christ in Texarkana will team-teach a class providing three options.
Jones noted the Sunday School and Worship Service time has “flip-flopped” effective September 8 with Worship assembly beginning at 9 a.m. and Sunday School to follow.
“Few churches can boast this lengthy service in one community and we are grateful for the ministers, leaders and church members who have stood firm for the cause of Christ,” Jones said.
Reservation for the catered luncheon provided by Lamar Avenue may be made by calling 903-785-0387 or by emaillacoc@suddenlinkmail.com.
Deadline is Monday, Aug. 26. There is no charge for the meal.
