Weekly Update - 11/17


Randy continued the sermon series "You Will Be My Witnesses" today with the lesson "We Must Go Through Many Hardships to Enter the Kingdom of God", with the text taken from Acts 14:21-23:

I.   The Reality:  "We must go through many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God".

II.  The Reasons:
       1.  Opposition
       2.  Fellow Christians disappoint.
       3.  Jealous crowds
       4.  Verbal Abuse
       5.  Provocation
       6.  Plotting
       7.  Misunderstanding
       8.  Physical Persecution

III.  The Responses:
        1.  Don't back down.
        2.  Teach the whole word of God.
        3.  Seize every opportunity.
        4.  Be bold.
        5.  Move on.
        6.  Embody grace.
        7.  Strength and encourage one another.
     




Russell Figgins, Chairman of the Elder Selection Committee, gave a report this morning, regarding the prospective elders.  There were more than sixty nominations!
Forms were given to each member to fill out, sign and return by December 1st.  (There will be an online form also, for those unable to attend.)

The Elder Candidates are:

  3. Brad Francis
  4. Greg Mayes
  5. James Paul Miears

RESPONSE

  • Bradley Smith went forward this morning to say that he is struggling and needs a home like LACOC. (He is Robyn Figgins brother.)
  • Jillian Usry has returned home from prison, after six long years.  She is ready to get acclimated back to being home and asked for our help and love.


PRAYER REQUESTS:
  • Jerry and Roxanne Raper - Jerry was admitted to PRMC last Tuesday.  He was transferred to Baylor.  He was dismissed to come home on Saturday with new meds.
  • Dianna Welch - fell a couple of weeks ago and has broken her shoulder. Her recovery is slow.
  • Bobbie Fulbright  - Recovering from heart surgery.
  • Ora Henderson - Health
  • Nancy Jones - Has broken her foot - will have surgery soon.
  • Cynthia Norris  - Was having issues with the port in her chest, they now have it moved to her arm.  She still has lots of pain.

  • Jay and Kristi Anthony -  Health

PRAYER REQUESTS FOR FRIENDS/FAMILY:
  • Leon Cowan (Ray Murphy's step-dad) will be having triple by-pass surgery soon.
  • Kylie Benson was critically injured in a car accident on October 28th. She has undergone numerous surgeries and is still in serious condition.
  • Cooper Bell, the 7-year-old son of Jerimy and Staci Bell of Roxton, continues to recover at home, from a four-wheeler accident. He has returned to school and is still in a wheelchair.
  • Billy Icenhower's dialysis catheter stopped up, last week, so that led the doctors to do an ultrasound and they found blood clots around the carotid and a clavicle vein. 
  • The Vanderpools - in Haiti

DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR KIDS ARE?  There have been some unattended children playing in the classrooms after bible classes.  Kiddie Kollege teachers work hard to keep the rooms clean for our bible classes that meet on Sundays and Wednesdays.  They would appreciate the same courtesy.  Please keep children out of the classrooms unless class is going on.

PANTRY NEEDS:  Canned meat / Crackers / Laundry Soap / Paper Towels

RAINBOW ROOM ITEMS:  Warm clothes for older kids and teens (like sweatshirts and sweatpants)

SIMPLE SUPPER:  This weeks' entree is Turkey and Dressing. $3/per person.
