Cherry McDowra Salter Walker, 87, of Paris, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021, at her home. Services are scheduled for noon Monday, March 22nd at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Joe Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery at Deport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Walker, the daughter of R. A. “Rip” McDowra & Goldie Mae Carter McDowra, was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Pattonville. She attended East Lamar High School followed by cosmetology school in Sherman. She was a hairdresser for many years.
Following the death of her first husband, Edwin, she began working at Merico. When the Kimberly Clark plant opened, she began working there and continued through retirement. Cherry was a member of the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
On June 11, 1949, she married Edwin Salter, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1978. She then married James Lee Walker on May 8, 1982, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dickie Salter, a grandson Sunny Salter, a granddaughter, Jamie Smith, five brothers, Lloyd McDowra, Kenneth McDowra, Jerald Ray McDowra, Terry McDowra, and her twin brother, Jerry McDowra, and a sister, Evelyn Daughtrey.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Salter & wife Sue of Pattonville, a daughter, Cheryl Smith & husband James of Paris, grandchildren, Misty Nixon, Heather Frost, Brooklyn Salter, Dusty Pegg, Shanna Anderson, Jessi Branton, Kelli Proffer, Dustin Salter, and Angela Salter, and one sister, Barbara Frambro along with numerous nieces & nephews and a plethora of friends.
Casket bearers will be: Bobby Salter, James Smith, Dustin Salter, Freddy Daughtrey, Brad McDowra, and Tracy Frost.
