Dorothea “Dot” Campbell 88, of Paris, died at 6:30 AM, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Medical Center of Plano. Funeral services are set for 10:00 AM, Monday, August 17, 2015 in the chapel of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home with Bro. Cleve Fendley and Dr. Jimmye Newman officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Dot was born January 27, 1927 in the Charleston Community of Delta County, Texas to Bud and Thelma Ion Smith Bates. She married James W. Campbell in 1948 and he died on December 27, 1998. They were longtime residents of Dallas prior to moving to Paris. She was a beautician and life-long and active member of the Church of Christ. Dot loved going to bluegrass gatherings and being with her many friends. She was very active in the community.
Survivors are three sons, Lee Campbell and wife, Grace, Jim Campbell, and Gary Campbell; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Kirkland and husband, Clyde, Joyce Freeman, and Judy McFadden and husband, Steve; one brother, Roy Preston Blair and wife, Val; and sisters-in-law, Glenda and Sandra Blair. She was preceded in death by one son, Jack R. Campbell; a grandson, David Lee Campbell; and her mother, Thelma Blair.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Campbell, Wesley Eldridge, Ronnie McFadden, Bill Freeman, Bruce Blair, and Clay Friddle. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sunday night after church supper group.
