Update on the Gillean's 1/29

Caleb posted this update: Alright guys it has been a rollercoaster the last couple of days but your prayers are definitely working so please keep them coming.

We got the definite answer that we will be staying in Plano until 34 weeks. This isn't quite what we planned but we're are getting abundant positive reports. We are so far in the best case scenario of what we are going through.

The two things that we would appreciate you joining us in prayer over are that labor holds off until 34 weeks and that no infection presents between now and then. My personal prayer through this is that I get a healthy baby girl and keep a healthy wife.

Thank you all so much for your much coveted prayers and support.

Prayer Request 1/29

Please pray for Ronnie and Treva Brunson, owners of A Piece of Cake.

Ronnie has just been diagnosed with acute aplastic anemia. He was admitted to Baylor yesterday and is about to start treatment today.

Ronnie and Treva are such hard workers and do all they can for the community.

Pray for the treatments to start working and for his bone marrow to respond.

Update on the Gillean's 1/29

Caleb Gillean posted this update: First off we want to say thank you soo much for all the calls, texts, support, love and most coveted prayers. Audrey went to her obgyn (btw Dr. Pipkin is great!) today to check out some concerns and it turned out she was going into mild labor. Pipkin sent her straight to the hospital where we had great staff taking care of us (thank you Alison and Megan). Everyone there explained to us that Paris is not set up for premature babies and in case Audrey went into full labor they wanted her in the best hands so she got to ride in a helicopter to Medical City Plano(thank you Mary and Alyson). She is on a few meds right now to stop the mild contractions and to boost the babies development in case she comes early. If she does they have everything here prepared to take the best care of her. Audrey will be on meds until tomorrow afternoon then they will stop the medication and see if she goes into labor at that point. We are barely past 32 weeks right now and the hope is to get to 34 weeks. Right now I would appreciate if anyone would join me in praying for my wife to remain healthy and praying for my daughter to be healthy whenever we get her. Thank you all so much.

Our Sympathy...

Derald Bulls sent this sad news:

Our family lost a very special part of our family tonight. My cousin, Tim LeFan, received his heavenly reward after some 58 years on earth. Born with Down Syndrome, Tim was a light in an otherwise dark room. He was the son of the late Mac and Clara LeFan (originally from Garland). Mac was my Mother’s baby brother. Tim was living in Edmond, OK with his sister, Terri Potter, and her husband Dale.

Tim’s health has been declining for some time but today we rejoice with the angels and all the family who have gone before him who welcomed him ‘Home’. Services are pending at Eastgate Funeral Home, Garland, and burial at Restland Cemetery possibly Friday. In addition to his sister, Terri, he is survived by two brothers, Tony LeFan (Garland) and Tommy LeFan (Fredricksburg, TX) and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

On a personal note, I will always cherish Tim calling my name, Derald Joe, when we would get to visit.

This is a photo from our last visit.

Feeding the need... 1/21

Feeding the need: North Texas Food Bank mobile pantry serves an estimated 1,200 people

Kim Cox is a staff writer for The Paris News.

Volunteers directed traffic in bright orange vests and loaded boxes into vehicles Wednesday morning in the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ parking lot.

The entire enterprise didn’t take long. Within the first 45 minutes of distribution, the North Texas Food Bank had run out of packaged shredded cheese.

“We’ve given out two pallets,” one of the volunteers said at the site.

The food bank once again returned to Paris for a mobile pantry. The first time, in May, featured National Guard members helping distribute the food from two trucks, but now the event has evolved to a volunteer-based process. This time around, the Dallas-based organization gave out over 21,000 pounds of food, according to Maricela Torche, who was on-site from the food pantry.

“Every site is treated a bit differently,” she said. “These are all local volunteers.”

About 20 volunteers came to help, according to Pastor Mickey Ellis, over the First Assembly of God Church next to the Church of Christ.

“Volunteers were from Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, Paris First Assembly, Living Word Assembly and Chicota Assembly of God,” he said. “I think a couple were from the Downtown Food Pantry.”

Torche said for something like this, they needed at least 15 people.

Back in the distribution line, Jo Blackburn said she works regularly in the Downtown Food Pantry, said that was where she heard about it.

“Someone asked if we could come here if they didn’t think they had enough to do it,” Blackburn said. “I enjoy it. Ray asked us at the food pantry, and here I am.”

Over the past eight months, Ellis has called the food bank back to Paris four times. Each time has had a good response from the public, he said.

“I first heard of them through an event in Honey Grove sponsored by one of our churches there,” Ellis said. “It was such a good report that I called to ask about them coming to Paris to help families in need. They were very willing to come and help.”

The North Texas Food Bank works in partnership with the Downtown Food Pantry, helping get food to those who need it in Lamar County, but this is an extra service.

“At last count, nearly 400 families were helped,” Ellis said. “That would be well over 300 cars coming through. I don’t have the final figures yet, but they were thinking that possibly over 1,200 individuals would be helped. I believe this has been the largest number of people helped in the four times we have done this with the NTFB.”

The event started at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and the bulk of those cars came through within the first 45 minutes. They ran out of food at 11:15 or so, Ellis said, though the event was set to last until noon.

“The NTFB has been great to work with,” he said, “and anything we can do to help families here is certainly worth the time and effort.

“And they will be back.”

Can you help?

Missionaries Bestie and David's plans are to be here on January 31st and will be staying at the Prunty's guest house the month of February. David Will office at the church while in Paris so go by and meet him! We have a life group stocking their pantry and some have volunteered to bring freezer meals and a member has provided a car for them to drive. Here are some things that would be helpful for them while they are here if you would like to help out:

  • Grocery gift cards
  • Restaurant gift cards
If you would like to help them out, please contact Loree Johns for more info or to get items to them. Thanks so much to all that have already helped!

Vaccine Information

The Paris Lamar County Health Dept., the City of Paris and Lamar County OEM have setup a county-wide online COVID-19 vaccine sign-up waiting list, and will open a call center later this week to assist with that form. The address for the online sign-up is on the City homepage at paristexas.gov . The call center number and hours will be published later this week when established. Currently there are no vaccines available in Lamar County, but some are expected later this week. Those who have already called the Health Dept to get on the waiting list do not need to sign up again on the website as they will be entered and called in the order received to schedule the vaccination. Website is available in English and Spanish.

Update on Pat Cochran 1/18

Update on Susan Figgins 1/17

Update from Wes: Susan is still on the vent, but they are weaning her off of it. Yesterday she was off 5 hours. They take her off to exercise her lungs several times a day. So far, so good!

Prayer Request 1/17

This information was provided by Jackie Shelton: Please pass this on for our friend, Pat Cochran. She has been in the hospital (over a week) with COVID. Last night, her condition worsened and she was moved to ICU. She may have to be intubated. Please pray for her recovery. Pat is a kind and generous woman. A nurse and former nursing instructor by profession, but a tireless, modest volunteer and advocate for the disadvantaged. Her husband, Ernie, is a Paris oncologist. Thank you! 💜

Update on Brad Ashford 1/17

Sheri sent this update:

Update on Susan Figgins 1/16

Russell Figgins sent this message: Susan regained her gag reflex today. She has breathed on her own without the ventilator for 5 hours so far. The blood clots may have caused some impairment in motor skills, but it seems they may not be catastrophic...  just something to be dealt with! Praise God for some better news today!

Update on Brad Ashford 1/16

My friend Sheri sent this update on her husband Brad:  He is not good! He cannot maintain his O2 sats when he gets up early in the morning it drops down and his pneumonia is worsening instead of getting better.  This will be day six in the hospital and he’s had all the drugs.  This virus suffocates you is what it does. We are hoping he’ll turn around and not have to go on a ventilator. He’s been on 12 to 15 L for the past three days high flow oxygen anytime he sits up out of bed he drops down in the 80s.

No one knows what to do I went up there yesterday and I said Dr. what’s wrong with his lungs, need to rule out bronchospasm, pulmonary embolism, is the pneumonia worsening etc. and they did a CT and that’s what it showed worsening pneumonia, so I do not know what the plan is at all. Just praying he’ll turn around that’s what I’m telling everybody pray pray pray!!

Urgent Prayer Request 1/8

Mark Welch has been taken to the hospital by ambulance, low oxygen and very sick. Prayers please!!

Update on Susan Figgins 1/8

Update on Susan:  Today Susan came to a bit and removed her ventilator. She is breathing on her own without the vent, thankfully. She was not happy. But, she spoke a few words. She is sleeping on her own without being sedated. She is sleeping a LOT. Pressures, O2 levels, etc. Are still rock solid.

Can you help?

The North Texas Food Bank will be delivering food from our parking lot on Wednesday morning, January 20th. The National Guard will be unable to assist and so volunteers are needed. Workers need to arrive at 8:00 a.m. Food will be distributed beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until all the food boxes are given away. Please call the church office if you can help.

Update on Susan Figgins 1/7

Update on Susan:  Susan's O2 levels are stable and high. She will remain on the ventilator until until she becomes coherent and able to breath reliably without the ventilator, at which time she can be weaned from the ventilator.

Prayer Request - 1/7

Derald Bulls sent this message:  I just got off the phone with Michael Keith. Most of you will remember Roy and Sandy Keith who worshiped at Lamar Avenue for many years while he worked for TXU and she at McCuistion Regional Medical Center.

For some time Roy has been dealing with complications from his cancer and cancer treatments. Over the last month he has been in Baylor Scott and White Hospital, Dallas, and is currently in the hospital in Magnolia, AR. He has an autoimmune condition as a result of his cancer and is very weak. For now, he is hospitalized and they are doing what they can to treat his condition. Due to Covid, he can only have one visitor a day and right now, Sandy has been the only one to see him daily. Sons Michael and Mark will be going to Roy and Sandy’s home in Taylor, AR today or tomorrow to be with their Mom and Dad.

They love Lamar Avenue and were a vital part of this church body for many years before moving back to Taylor, Roy’s home town. Please lift Roy, Sandy, Michael, Mark and all the Keith family lifted daily in your prayers. He will remain in the hospital in Arkansas as long as the current treatment provides improvement.

Our Sympathy...

Charlotte Grooms posted this message:

Ok my prayer warriors I need you all now. I took Kenneth to the hospital ER at 8:30 yesterday morning and stayed in a room till 4:30 before a room upstairs was ready. We said our goodbyes because of the Covid rules, which he had tested negative to earlier that day in the hallway, not knowing it would be the last.

At 9:00 p.m. one of the nurses called and said he passed away. What a shock. .Not the way I planned on ending 2020.

Please keep Charlotte, Kenda and their family in your prayers!
