Weekly Update - 12/1

"A Theology of the Church"
I.  A Word Study:
      I
n the dictionary, church is defined as "A building used for public Christian worship."
      T
he Latin word is ekklesia, which means "to call out, to call together".

II.  "Church" in Acts is mentioned 19 times.

III.  7 Points about the Church
        1.  It's composed of the saved.
        2.  It belongs to God.
        3.  It gathers, then scatters.
        4.  It is universal and local.
        5.  It is diverse but unified.
        6.  Its significance is not determined by size or location but by the presence of the spirit.
        7.  It is on a mission.

Weekly Update - 11/24

Randy continued the series "You Will Be My Witnesses" this morning.
He also told us about John Alan Turner, an author, who wrote about the top 5 church problems:
1.  Anxiety
2.  Lack of mission
3.  Bad boundaries
4.  Refusal to confront problems
5.  Polarized parties (opposing factions)

"When Christians Part Company"
Acts 15:36-41

Disagreement about John Mark:
1.  Paul and Barnabas plan a second missionary journey.
2.  Barnabas is willing to give John Mark another chance; Paul does not.
3.  Unfortunately, no agreement is reached and Paul and Barnabas part company.

Lessons to Learn:
1.  Disagreements are unavoidable.
2.  Sometimes friends side against friends.
3.  Fractured relations can disrupt God's mission.
4.  Fractured relations can also lead to parallel ministries that expand the work of God.
5.  Our goal in ministry should be to become co-workers.
6.  The summons of the gospel is reconciliation.
7.  Everyone needs a Barnabas, to encourage us. (His name means son of encouragement.)

WELCOME:  Barbara Jones has moved back to Paris. She is Cotton Steelman's granddaughter.

RESPONSE:  Molly Woodall (that's me) went forward this morning. Randy's sermon really touched my heart. I try so hard to be positive and encouraging, as we all do, sometimes it's tough and I let everything get in the way. Sometimes saying "I'm fine. Fine. Just fine." doesn't mean that we're ok.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

  • Leslie Wampler - Health
  • Bill Tribbey - Health
  • Carl Haggard got a good report from 3 of his cancer doctors Friday. His cancer is not spreading and his colon cancer will not be as difficult of surgery as his bladder cancer. The fact that his cancer has not spread is an answer to prayers. They will find out next week when they are going to schedule his colon cancer surgery. He has some discomfort but nothing really painful.
  • Aaron Rodriquez is home, after graduating from Marine Boot Camp.  He was with us at worship this morning.
  • Dianna Welch - fell a couple of weeks ago and has broken her shoulder. Her recovery is
  • Jerry Raper - Health
  • Ora Henderson - Health
  • Cynthia Norris  - Was having issues with the port in her chest, they now have it moved to her arm.  She still has lots of pain.
  • Leston Maggard - Health
  • Jay and Kristi Anthony -  Health

Update on Crystal McFadden 11/22

Rickey McFadden just posted this update:  Praise God. Prayers answered. The abscess was clear and no sign of infection so they did not have to leave a drain in Crystal. Not sure about the antibiotics, if she will need 3 more weeks or not. Hopefully not and they can remove the pic-line. Thanks for all your prayers. One happy Dad and one very happy daughter.

Thank you Lord for answered prayers!!

Update on Crystal McFadden - 11/20

Rickey McFadden sent this message from his daughter Crystal:
"Tomorrow was going to be my day...I was going to get my picc line out after 3.5 weeks. I had plans to start putting up Christmas tomorrow. With the picc line I can’t lift more than 10 pounds. I can’t make candy because I have to be careful with how much I use my arm since I’ve have some issues with the picc bleeding. I went for my CT scan today in preparation for my appt tomorrow. I got a call within two hours from my dr’s office telling me I have a new abscess and I will have to be on antibiotics for at least 3 more weeks. I’m so frustrated. I have really had a hard time reconciling the info in my brain. I started this journey almost 9 weeks ago. It wasn’t supposed to be this hard. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I hate that I’m still dealing with this. I so appreciate everyone’s prayers and love and I really can feel them and I do know it could be worse but right now I’m going to throw a pity party and cry if I want to. Tomorrow I’ll face it like a fighter. Tomorrow I will continue towards getting well."

Thursday Night

(This article is in The Paris News Today.)
An annual community Thanksgiving worship service is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.
Presented by the Lamar County Christian Ministers Association and Paris Ministerial Alliance, this year’s host is Breakthrough Church, 1225 NW Loop 286, on the south side of the Loop between Highway 271 and Highway 79.
The Rev. Gordon Barnes, pastor of Breakview, will bring the message.
“At a time people are struggling day to day, we as believers need to pause to offer God thanks for blessing us abundantly, and join us this coming Thursday as we gather as a Christian community to give a good God real thanks,” said the Rev. Lance Mann, pastor of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church and president of the Paris Ministerial Alliance.
Father Craig Reed, pastor of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and president of the Lamar County Christian Ministers Association, spoke about the blessing of diversity.
“Paris and Lamar County are blessed with a diversity of churches and faithful Christians,” he said. “The Community Thanksgiving service allows us to gather together for worship and fellowship. It is a wonderful reminder that the Church is more than our own congregation.
“St. Paul tells us ‘You are the Body of Christ, and individually members of it,’” the pastor noted. “We have this opportunity to bring the various parts of the ‘body’ together. It is a great witness to the community about the whole body bearing witness to the Gospel.”
An offering collected during the service will go to a number of community service agencies to be announced by the two sponsoring groups. In the past, those agencies have included Texas Dream Center, New Hope Family Center, The King’s Daughters, Paris Pregnancy Care Center and Christians in Action, among others.
