HELP NEEDED—If you can greet someone with a smile and lend a hand to graciously open a door or the car door for someone then YOU ARE NEEDED! We are looking for a few gentlemen to be an outside valet parker/greeter. You would only have to do this once a month on a rotating basis.
PANTRY NEEDS—We have many people that help with this on a regular basis. A big thank you to those who recently stepped in to fill up an almost empty pantry. We are still in need of a few items: jelly, soup, cereal, laundry detergent, dish washing detergent, household cleaners, plastic spoons, size 3 & 4 diapers. Thank you to all that make this ministry possible!
YOUNG AT HEART– We are planning another fun night for those 60 and older! We will serve a meal at 6PM followed by games of Dominoes, Forty Two, and Chicken Foot. You can also just come to visit and hang out! But BEWARE! There is a rumor we have some serious Chicken Foot Ladies! Please sign up at the Welcome Center if you plan to come so we can have a head count for food preparation.
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS—New Wednesday night classes will start June 1st. See calendars posted on doors and at the Welcome Center. Plan to attend!
WEDNESDAY NIGHT SIMPLE SUPPERS– will look slightly different throughout the summer. Our cooking teams are taking a break! Bring your own dinner and fellowship together before class.

Congratulations. . .

North Lamar High School senior Mackenzie Beckmon has been named Academic All-American for the National Speech and Debate Association.
“Requirements for this award are strenuous,” said Speech and Debate coach Kristi Hodgkiss.
Recipients of the award must have a 3.7 GPA (on a 4.0 scale), score a 27 or higher on the ACT or a 2000 or higher on the SAT, and have a degree of superior distinction in the NSDA (which requires 750 points).
“Winning a debate round is worth six points, so it takes a while to get there (750 points),” said Hodgkiss.  “Mackenzie holds a degree of premier distinction, with 1,021 points, which is especially impressive given that she did not start debate until she was a sophomore.”
Mackenzie is only the fourth student in North Lamar’s history to receive this prestigious award.  While at NLHS, Mackenzie has qualified for region three times in UIL.  She qualified for the Texas Forensics Association State Tournament this year, and has qualified for the National Speech and Debate Tournament twice.

Prayer Request 5/26

Please keep my nephew and his wife, Clint and Carol McMillan, in your prayers.
Clint had a biopsy on a spot, on his face, and the results came back positive for skin cancer.  The doctor feels certain that he can get it all with surgery, which is scheduled for June 8th.
His wife, Carol, has been fighting cancer for a couple of years.  She had another transfusion yesterday  Her colon is lighting up so they are doing colonoscopy. Not sure if cancer or something else. They go to Baylor, on June 7th, to see if she can have surgery to remove adrenal gland which has been cancerous from the beginning.  She also had an MRI today.

Update on Jessica Daniels 5/26

Jessica Daniels had a biopsy on her thyroid this morning.  They will have the results tomorrow.

    We rise ...

    Weekly Update - 5/1

"I am the Light of the world" was the message that Patrick brought us from John 8:12-30, this morning.  It's the second installment, in the seven part series, of the "The 7 I Am Statements of Jesus"."
*Jesus came so we don't have to live in the dark.
*When no one else will stand with you, Jesus will.
*Jesus calls into the darkness of your life, and asks you to follow Him.
*He speaks of a whole hearted life long discipleship, not just an an acquaintance.

What does light means for us?
*Light brings attention to our need. (Verse 1-9)
    *Light brings hope. (Verse 11)
    *Light brings direction. (Verse 11)

Is HE the light of your world?

MEN'S BREAKFAST:  This Tuesday morning at 7am to 8am.  If you plan to attend, please sign up at the Welcome Center or call the church office, so they will have plenty of food cooked.  This is a great time for men to fellowship with one another while eating a wonderful meal together.  Invite your friends/family to join you.

BLOOD DRIVE:  If you are able to give blood, then please sign up or show up for our Blood Drive, this Wednesday, May 4th.  You never know whose life you might save!

WEDDING SHOWER:  There will be a shower honoring D'Lynn Gage and her soon to be husband, Philip Bueno, on May 15th from 1:30pm to 3pm.. Selections Belks, Carriage House and JCPenny.

CAN YOU HELP?  We will be hosting a Foster Family Appreciation/Fun Day at our building on Saturday, 5/21 from 10am-2pm.. Most of the planning will be done by CPS, but they need help running the different activities that are planned, and we can help with set up and clean up. They are planning to have things like bounce houses, ball pits, face painting, carnival games, etc.We need to go ahead and get a count of how many people will be able to help, and CPS requires that anyone over the age of 14 will need to fill out a volunteer application and have a background check completed. (Our younger kids are welcome to come help as long as we monitor them). If you are interested in helping that day, volunteer forms will be available in the church office for you to fill out. We need the paperwork turned in by 5/10 so there will be time to get the background checks completed before the event.

We hope to have a good turnout to show love and appreciation to these families that are helping kids in need. Please let Rachel Spencer know if you are planning to be there.

IGLESIA de CRISTO:  We will be having an Open House and Building Dedication with our Hispanic brethren on May 22nd from 5PM to 7PM. We will gather and praise God in how He has blessed this congregation. Refreshments will be served. There will be no evening service at our building.
