Roots & Wings - 9/8

A DAY OF REJOICING!
A DAY OF REMEMBERING!
A DAY OF RENEWAL!
Thank you to all the folks that made it happen... Keith Bollman, Kim Hanley, Derald Bulls, John Cannon, Randy Johns, Lewis and Carole Anderson, Jill Faires, Kristen Mayes, and Kelci Friddle.
It was so good to see old friends and make new ones!  Lots of hugs, tears, memories, laughter, good food, beautiful singing... you get the idea!
Saturday night was "Meet and Greet" night!  It was a night of getting reacquainted and lots of good food!  Thank you to all the ones who grilled, prepared, set-up/cleaned-up or brought desserts.
The foyer and hallway were full of history and a timeline, put together by John Cannon, Jill Faires and Kim Hanley. There were albums fulls of pictures!
Today we were led in praise and worship by DJ Bulls. The singing was PHENOMENAL!
Randy's lesson today was "Roots and Wings". (See the Weekly Update for today's sermon notes.)
We were dismissed from worship to go out on the front lawn to take a group photo... with a drone! Thanks, to Kevin Shackleford for that!  Click here and you can see a video of everyone getting together!
John and Patrick Cannon were in the auditorium for a class titled "Why We Love The Church".
Keith Kilmer (Dean's son) had a class titled "Thy Kingdom Come".
Jeff Christian's class was titled "An Open Discussion about the Future of Christianity".
We traveled to the Love Civic Center for a lunch catered by Richard Lee, who owns the new restaurant "High Cotton".
Derald Bulls introduced State Representative Gary VanDeaver, Lamar County Judge Brandon Y. Bell, and Mayor Steve Clifford who all presented the church with Proclamations from the state, county and city. (FYI... today was Lamar Avenue Church of Christ Day in Paris.)
We enjoyed beautiful songs from WON HEART.  The members are Dianna Welch, Lindsay McCarter, Kari Ann Cannon, Tammy Benedick, Robyn Figgins and Jennifer Christian. Today was the first time they've sung together in 20 years!!
Former ministers then regaled us with Reflections and Memories. John Cannon, Keith Kilmer, Jeff Christian and Patrick Cannon talked of history and memories that they have of LACOC.
"OUT OF PRACTICE", the 2011 LTC Young Men's Group, which consisted of Matt Duren, Sam Cannon, Spencer Jones and Riede Faires, sang 3 songs for us.  (I remember these guys performing their songs at LTC...their voices have definitely changed!) They were only able to practice together on Saturday night!
Former youth ministers Mike Bishop, Randy Johns, Rusty Abrams, Deon Melton, Jered Benedick told us of memories from the youth groups in years past.
While Deon was at the podium, he led us in a rousing version of AMEN!
The "YOUTH AND QUEST KIDS" (too many kids to list) sang a few songs for us! (We are going to see good things out of these kids!)
"ROCK SOLID" with members Kyle Jones, Patrick Cannon, Richard Logan and new member Andrew Whitehouse, blessed us with songs.
DJ Bulls closed the day out with audience participation of  "Bless Be the Tie that Binds".

I apologize for not having any photos... once they are posted, I will upload some.
