Weekly Update - 10/6


CHURCH AS IT'S MEANT TO BE
ACTS 2:42-47

I.     Priority: One Important Verb.
II.    Priorities:  Four Important Nouns.
             (From verse 42: Teaching. Fellowship. Eating. Praying.)
III.  Priorities Illustrated: Ten Demonstrations.

APPLICATION:
       1.  Maintain biblical instruction as the center of church life.
       2.  Make relationships at Lamar Avenue a priority.
       3.  Share a meal with someone - often.
       4.  Persist in prayer. (Prayer is a direct barometer of your faith.)
       5.  Engage with culture.
       6.  Reflect regularly on our vision.
       7.  Keep "church" important in your life.

THIS SUGGESTS MOVEMENT:
       1.  Move beyond Sunday.
       2.  Move beyond individuals.
       3.  Move beyond ourselves.
       4.  Move beyond the building.

OUR SYMPATHY:
  • Delma Gibbs' brother-in-law, Norris Ballard, passed away.  Norris was a retired teacher and rancher.
  • After attending the Sulphur Springs football game, two sisters and their children were in a horrific accident. The sisters, Sandy Reed and Keesha Gibbs were killed.
    Sandy's nine-year-old Jacob is in critical condition as is Keisha's fourteen-year-old daughter.
    Please keep the family and the city of Sulphur Springs in your prayers.

  • Glenn Barnett will be having surgery on his vertebra on tomorrow, Mon. October 7th.

PRAYER REQUESTS FOR FRIENDS/FAMILY:
  • Campbell Jones 14-year-old great-granddaughter of Claude and Mary Jones fell from a golf cart. It cracked her skull and if the swelling continues to get worse they will have to do surgery. She is in ICU at Medical City Dallas. Please pray for her. 
  • Grady Harper, neighbor of Claude and Mary - Cancer
  • Pat Goolsby, Carole Anderson's friend - Declining health.
  • Robert Wunch, Derald Bulls' friend, has cancer and waiting for pathology reports.
  • Dustin Smith, Haley Bulls-Smith's husband - Health
  • Joseph Filkins, my co-worker Delona Swaim's fiancee is in UT Hospital/Tyler having IV antibiotics after an abscess was found on his spine. 
  • Cooper Bell, the 7-year-old son of Jerimy and Staci Bell of Roxton, continues to recover at home, after a 4 wheeler accident. Had another procedure this week.
  • Billy Icenhower is doing better.  
  • The Vanderpools - in Haiti

    LADIES RETREAT will be Feb 21-22 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Texarkana.  Laurie Stallings Vanderpool will be our speaker. Mark your calendars now and watch for more information to come about our exciting weekend together.
