Weekly Update - 1/5


The beginning of a new year is a time to reflect and to resolve.

I.  Rewind - A look back at 2019
  •      Buddy Bell teaching us about Life Groups.
  •      We spent the summer watching videos about Life Groups.
  •      Raised participation in Sunday School.
  •      Celebrated "Roots and Wings" during our 150th anniversary, in September.
  •      Randy and Jared co-preached the series on "Think Orange".
  •      The series "You Will Be My Witnesses" led to the selection of new elders.
II.   Pause - Things to think about
       1.  Who we are as children of God
       2.  How will I make responsible decisions?

III.  Fast Forward - What we can look forward to in 2020

  • Jan-Feb Wednesday Nights - New Classes.
  • This Summer will be the first Summer Latch Key Program.
    Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. 
  • Beginning next week - 7 week series on the book of Micah. (Start reading now!)
  • A series on "The Lord's Prayer"
  • Randy and Jared co-preaching on the book "The Blessing"
  • A series of Romans in the Summer
  • A series, later in the year, on Revelations
IV.  Play - Start NOW

  1. Choose meaningful membership.
    Be involved.  (I Corinthians 12:12-14) Each of plays a part.
  2. Concentrate on one aspect of our vision:
    ~ Connect with God
    ~ Unity of believers
    ~ Restore all things


PRAYER REQUESTS:
  • Cledith Ray - Was amitted PRMC last night. Her blood sugar was extremely low.
  • Marge Norlin - Is in the hospital in Houston.
  • Eddie George - Had a stroke on Christmas Day. He's in PRMC/Rehab for another 10 days. He had a seizure Thursday, and now his speech and eyesight are blurred.  He's still numb on the left side of his body.
  • Claude Jones - Health
  • Dianna Welch - Recovering from a fall. Dr. Gibbs said her shoulder is deteriorating instead of improving. The first week of January will be tests and scheduling of surgery to completely rebuild her shoulder, ball socket.

  • Please keep the White Settlement church in your prayers.

    PRAYER REQUESTS FOR FRIENDS/FAMILY
    • Mark Stribling (my friend) had a heart attack on Saturday morning. He continues to be in PRMC/ICU.
    • Karla Roffee - Dan Roffee's Mom - is cancer FREE!!!
    • Bobby Johns (Randy John's Dad) - He is scheduled to be moved to another facility for more long term rehab. Hopefully to Ada.
    • Former member, Judy Brockway (Howerton), had a fall this week and is in lots of pain.
    • Rickey McFadden - Had a heart cath last week.  He had 2 stents put in and has 2 blocked arteries. He is still short of breath.
    • Allen Ballard - Larry Ballard's nephew - Was in a serious auto accident. Is in Medical City/Plano.
    • Corey Townsend - He is in the last stages of brain cancer. He is now in Heritage on hospice.

    DIGGING DEEPER will be a Wednesday night Ladies Class, to begin this week and will go through February. The goal of this class, taught by Rebecca Cowan and Maurine Spencer, will be to practice different ways of studying the bible to find what works best for you and to empower you to study the bible more on your own. Please bring your bible and a notebook or journal to class.

    DEADLINE to sign up, if you haven't already, and pay your fees for the Ladies Retreat, Feb 21-22, will be Jan. 15th.  Please make checks payable to LACOC and give it to the office.

    WEDDING SHOWER for Molly Denman daughter of Matt and Lisa Denman will be Jan. 19th 1:30pm - 3pm.  Selections are at Spanglers, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target and Amazon.com.

    PANTRY NEEDS:  Mac and Cheese - Crackers - Dish Soap - Laundry Detergent

    RAINBOW ROOM ITEMS:  Warm clothes for older kids and teens (like sweatshirts and sweatpants)

    SIMPLE SUPPER:  This weeks' entree will be:  CHIPOTLE BOWLS.
